Mox Spotlight April: Exploding Kittens
A new month means a new Mox Spotlight, and we have a game publisher whose products are always a blast: Exploding Kittens. Throughout all of April, starting on the first, all Exploding Kittens games are 10% off — and we’re not fooling! This includes Exploding Kittens, the company’s namesake game, which will bring the heat to any springtime gaming session. Their games are absurd in the best way, engaging and full of chaos, so be sure to check them out. If you need some help picking one to try, here are our favorites:
Exploding Kittens
2-5 players | Age 7+ | 15 mins
We had to begin with the classic that started it all. This game is all about strategy, because when that exploding kitten drops, you better have a way to disarm it. If not, you’re out of the game until it’s time to start over. This game is perfect for friend groups and families that like to stir up a bit of trouble by betraying each other (and then laughing it off). It’s the perfect way to keep your mind sharp and your kittens intact.
Tacocat Spelled Backwards
2 players only | Age 7+ | 15 mins
Another case of box utility, Tacocat Spelled Backwards is a little like tug of war with palindromes. Play high numbered cards one moment and defend against them the next to win rounds and march toward the win. This is another strategy intensive game, with lots of different ways to approach each hand — which means there’s lots of room for replayability.
A Little Wordy
2 players | Age 7+ | 15 mins
Do you have a friend that thinks they have the biggest vocabulary? Well, this game can show them that it’s not about quantity, but quality! In this word unscrambling game, you’re given a pile of letters that you must rearrange into a word. Then, you do your best to guess what your opponent came up with using clue cards to help. The cleverest player wins!
A Game of Cat and Mouth
2 players | Age 7+ | 20 mins
Don’t think! Just fling! With this game, the box is the battlefield where you send magnetic balls flying from your side to your opponent’s. Good aim helps, but it’s really all about being quick. Play a single round if you just need a bit of action or run a mini-tournament at your next game night. The fast-paced choice is yours.
Hand to Hand Wombat
3-6 players | Age 7+ | 15 mins
For this game, you don’t really know who is on your team and who is against you. The goal for one team is to build up towers while the other wants to knock them down. The key lies in figuring out which players are with you or against you, because you’ll get the chance to vote them out of the game. If you’re new to social deception games, this is a perfect starting point.
All of these games, and others, are 10% throughout April, so keep an eye on the event calendars of Mox Seattle, Mox Bellevue, and Mox Portland for the chance to get hands on with these games. You can also sing up for our newsletter here for regular updates on upcoming sales, events and news.
