Fifth Annual Mox Gauntlet: Realms
With its spacious rooms and one-of-a-kind art deco décor, Mox Boarding House Bellevue has become a go-to event space for gamers throughout the Puget Sound area. Mox has played host to everything from corporate events to card game tournaments, and this spring, the company’s charitable giving arm, ENGAGE, is poised to carry out its biggest fundraising event to date.
On Sunday, May 20, 2018, Mox will host The Gauntlet: Realms – an annual charity tabletop gaming tournament. Each year, twenty game companies and community organizations send teams of four to compete in the day of games and giving, which will begin at 11 AM and conclude with an after-party around 8 PM. The teams spend the six weeks leading up to the tournament raising funds for a local charity; this year’s beneficiary is Wellspring Family Services, a non-profit that has been providing counseling, employee assistance, and other vital services to Seattle families since 1892.
Last year’s Gauntlet event exceeded ENGAGE’s expectations, as players teamed up to raise $138,000 for youth in foster care. While that’s a tough act to follow, ENGAGE Program Manager Lyla Ross is confident that year five will be the most successful Gauntlet yet.
“Year after year, our Gauntlet participants blow me away with their dedication to fundraising and to competing in this gauntlet of games,” said Lyla Ross, Program Manager for ENGAGE. “This year, we’re excited to announce that each one of our tournament games was locally designed – this has never been done before. In fact, it’s hard to find games that our many game designer participants haven’t also been a part of designing! We hope this detail adds an element of community support for our local games industry.”
